Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra
Ex Kathgodam

Kathgodam is the last railway station of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand — the point at which the plains of India give way to the mountains, and where the inner world of the pilgrim begins to stir. It is a modest, functional town, unremarkable in itself, but for the hundreds of thousands of devotees who alight here each year, it carries the weight of a threshold. Beyond Kathgodam lies the Kumaon Himalaya — ancient, serene, steeped in Shaivite mythology, and home to some of the most extraordinary spiritual destinations on the Indian subcontinent.

Why This Yatra

Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra Ex Kathgodam
is Trip To Temples Best Seller Adi Kailash package

and it is easy to understand why. At seven nights and eight days, it is the most complete and generously paced version of this pilgrimage available. It begins at Kathgodam with the kind of gradual, unhurried ascent through the green hills of Kumaon that allows the body and mind to settle into the rhythm of the mountains before the inner-line terrain of Pithoragarh is reached. It ends at Bhimtal — the serene lakeside town in the Kumaon hills — allowing pilgrims a final night of rest and reflection before their return journey, carrying with them everything the mountains have given.

This is the yatra for the pilgrim who does not want to rush. It is built for families with elderly parents, for devoted couples seeking a shared spiritual experience, for those who have waited years for the call of Adi Kailash and wish to answer it in the fullest possible way. The zero-trek design means that not a single sacred destination on this itinerary — not Om Parvat at Nabidhang, not Adi Kailash at Jolingkong, not Parvati Sarovar at the foot of the peak — requires trekking on foot. Every site is reached by specialised high-altitude mountain vehicle, making this one of the most accessible high-altitude pilgrimages in India for pilgrims of all fitness levels and age groups.

The route winds through the entire spiritual landscape of Kumaon — from the beloved Kainchi Dham of Neem Karoli Baba and the ancient 124-temple complex of Jageshwar Dham to the underground mystery of Patal Bhuvaneshwar, the bell-laden justice shrine of Chitai Golu Devta, and the magnificent viewpoints of Chaukori and Didihat with their sweeping panoramas of the Panchchuli and Nanda Devi ranges. By the time a pilgrim reaches the inner sanctum of Gunji and Nabidhang, they have already received the blessings of a dozen sacred sites — and the darshan of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, when it finally comes, arrives as the luminous culmination of a journey that has been preparing the heart every step of the way.

Complete 8-Days Itinerary

A perfectly crafted journey from Pithoragarh to the sacred peaks of Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, offering divine darshan from the comfort of a helicopter.

1
Arrival in Pithoragarh
Kathgodam to Pithoragarh | En Route Sightseeing | Overnight Pithoragarh
Meals: Dinner

Your journey begins at Kathgodam — the last railhead of the Kumaon region, connected to Delhi and major north Indian cities by train. Board your dedicated mountain vehicle and set out on the scenic drive to Pithoragarh, the administrative headquarters of the district from which the entire Adi Kailash inner-line journey is managed. En route, visit Kainchi Dham — the ashram of Neem Karoli Baba at Bhowali, situated in a narrow mountain gorge along the banks of the Kosi River. The ashram radiates a quality of peace that is immediately felt upon entering, and its association with one of India's most beloved modern saints makes it a genuinely transformative stop even for first-time visitors. Continue through Almora — the cultural heart of Kumaon, with its distinctive curved bazaar, rich artistic heritage, and ancient Nanda Devi Temple — before calling at Chitai Golu Devta Temple, whose thousands of appeal bells and handwritten letters create one of the most visually striking and humanly moving devotional landscapes in all of Uttarakhand. If time permits, also visit the ancient Katarmal Sun Temple, one of the finest examples of medieval Kumaoni temple architecture. Arrive in Pithoragarh by evening. Overnight stay in Pithoragarh.

2
🚁 Aerial Darshan
Pithoragarh to Dharchula | Medical Check & Inner-Line Permit | Overnight Dharchula
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, depart for Dharchula — approximately 92 kilometres from Pithoragarh along the Kali River valley, a drive of approximately three to four hours through increasingly dramatic mountain terrain. Dharchula is the frontier town where the Kali River forms the international boundary between India and Nepal, and it is here that the administrative formalities essential to the inner-line journey are completed. In Dharchula, your group will undergo the mandatory medical examination conducted by government-appointed doctors — a required step for entry into the inner-line restricted zone of the Vyas Valley. Trip To Temples will also complete the Inner Line Permit formalities on your behalf. The afternoon is free for rest, exploration of the local market, and darshan at the Kali Mata Temple on the banks of the river. Evening briefing by your tour guide on the high-altitude route ahead. Overnight stay in Dharchula.

3
🏔️ Spiritual Culmination
Dharchula to Gunji / Napalchu | En Route Sightseeing | Overnight Gunji or Napalchu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After an early breakfast, begin the inner-line drive from Dharchula into the restricted high-altitude zone of the Pithoragarh district — one of the most spectacular mountain drives anywhere in India. The road follows the Kali River upstream through the narrow gorge, climbing steadily through the villages of Tawaghat, Pangu, Narayanashram, Sirkha, Budhi, and Gala before opening onto the wider plateau approaching Gunji. At Kalapani, your guide will point out the source spring of the Kali River — a trickle of glacial water that eventually becomes the mighty waterway forming India's border with Nepal — and the ancient Kali Temple above it, a remote and deeply atmospheric shrine that few pilgrims visit with the attention it deserves. Continue to Gunji, the central hub of the inner-line zone at approximately 3,400 metres. Gunji has served as a base for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims for generations, and its guesthouses, though basic, carry a warmth and hospitality specific to communities that have lived in intimate relationship with pilgrimage for centuries. Overnight stay at Gunji or Napalchu.

4
🏁 Return Journey
Gunji to Adi Kailash | Parvati Sarovar | Jolingkong | Overnight Nabi or Budhi
Meals: Breakfast

This is the spiritual summit of the entire journey. Depart Gunji and drive towards Jolingkong — the high-altitude plateau at approximately 4,780 metres at the base of Adi Kailash peak. The approach road enters the Vyas Valley proper, passing through ancient glacial terrain, crossing high-altitude streams, and gradually ascending into the thin, crystalline air of the inner Himalaya. The first sight of Adi Kailash — its pyramidal white peak rising clean and precise above the surrounding ridgeline — is a moment that every pilgrim who has stood before it carries for the rest of their life. The resemblance to Tibet's great Kailash is remarkable and deeply intentional in the spiritual geography of the region — this is the earthly beginning of Shiva's mountain presence, the first Kailash of a cosmic sequence. At Jolingkong, seek the darshan of the Shiva Lingam at the ancient temple at the base of the peak, and proceed to Parvati Sarovar — the glacial lake whose still, mirror-clear waters reflect the snow face of Adi Kailash in conditions of morning calm. Take the holy dip in the icy waters of Parvati Sarovar, offer your prayers, perform a pradakshina of the lakeshore, and receive the blessing of both Shiva and Parvati together at the source of this most sacred geography. Return by vehicle to Nabi or Budhi for overnight stay.

5
🏁 Return Journey
Gunji to Nabidhang | Om Parvat Darshan | Return to Gunji | Overnight Gunji or Napalchu
Meals: Breakfast

The darshan of Om Parvat awaits. Depart early from Gunji for Nabidhang, the high plateau at approximately 3,600 metres from which Om Parvat is seen in its full, unobstructed glory. The drive passes through Kuti Village — one of the highest inhabited settlements in India, set in a wide and wildly beautiful glacial valley — before the final approach to the Nabidhang viewpoint. At Nabidhang, the view of Om Parvat at 6,191 metres reveals the natural ॐ symbol on its snow-covered face with striking clarity. No human hand has touched this formation — it is simply the shape of rock and the settling of eternal snows, which together produce an image of the most sacred syllable in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions with a precision that leaves every pilgrim in silent, involuntary awe. Spend as much time as you need in prayer and contemplation at Nabidhang before returning to Gunji. Overnight stay at Gunji or Napalchu.

6
🏁 Return Journey
Nabi / Budhi to Didihat / Chaukori | Panoramic Himalayan Views | Overnight Didihat or Chaukori
Meals: Breakfast

The descent from the inner-line zone begins today, and with it comes the gradual transition from the austere grandeur of the high Himalaya to the gentler, greener beauty of the middle hills. Drive from Nabi or Budhi back through Dharchula and then onwards to Didihat or Chaukori — both situated at elevations of approximately 1,800 to 2,000 metres with sweeping panoramic views of the Himalayan high peaks including the spectacular Panchchuli range and, on clear days, the distant crown of Nanda Devi. Chaukori, in particular, is one of the finest viewpoints in all of Kumaon — a tea-growing hill station from which, on cloudless mornings, the entire arc of the Himalayan skyline from Api and Namba in the west to Nanda Devi and Trishul in the east is visible in a single unbroken panorama. This is a moment of quiet, grateful contemplation after the intensity of the inner-line pilgrimage. Overnight stay at Didihat or Chaukori.

7
🏁 Return Journey
Didihat / Chaukori to Bhimtal | Patal Bhuvaneshwar & Jageshwar Dham | Overnight Bhimtal
Meals: Breakfast

The penultimate day of the pilgrimage is as spiritually rich as any other — beginning with the underground mystery of Patal Bhuvaneshwar and continuing to the ancient magnificence of Jageshwar Dham. Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a limestone cave temple located near Gangolihat, described in the Skanda Purana as a subterranean pilgrimage site where all the gods of the Hindu pantheon are enshrined in the form of living stalactite and stalagmite formations. The cave descends approximately 90 feet into the earth and extends 160 metres, its narrow passages opening into chambers where the rock formations — of Ganesha's head, of the Adi Shankaracharya lingam, of the four Yugas, of the Amarnath Shivling — are identified and described with a vividness that makes even the most sceptical visitor feel that they are in the presence of something genuinely ancient and alive. From Patal Bhuvaneshwar, drive to Jageshwar Dham — the legendary cluster of over 124 ancient stone temples set within a forest of massive, fragrant deodar trees in the Jageshwar Valley near Almora. The complex is believed to have been established by Lord Shiva himself and is revered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas by certain Shaivite traditions. Adi Shankaracharya visited Jageshwar during his great traversal of India and is said to have meditated here — the energy of the place carries that history in every carved stone. Continue to Bhimtal — the serene lakeside town at the edge of the Kumaon hills — for the final overnight stay of the yatra.

8
🏁 Return Journey
Bhimtal to Kathgodam | Departure
Meals: Breakfast

After a leisurely breakfast on the banks of Bhimtal lake, depart for Kathgodam — approximately 25 kilometres away, reached comfortably in under an hour. Your vehicle will drop you at Kathgodam Railway Station or as per your onward travel arrangements. From here, the trains and roads of India carry you back to your everyday world — but the world you return to is not quite the same one you left. Adi Kailash has a way of quietly rearranging the interior landscape. Your eight-day Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra Ex Kathgodam is now complete.

Before You Book

Important Guidelines

Age and Fitness: The Adi Kailash Yatra is open to pilgrims between 10 and 70 years of age as per the guidelines of the Uttarakhand local authority. Children below 10 years are not eligible. This package is specifically designed with the zero-trek philosophy — no trekking on foot is required at any point. However, pilgrims will be at altitudes up to 4,780 metres at Jolingkong, and all travellers are strongly advised to have a basic medical check before booking. A medical fitness certificate may be required at the Dharchula check post.

Inner-Line Permits: The route beyond Dharchula into the Vyas Valley is a restricted inner-line zone. All permits for Indian nationals are arranged by Trip To Temples as part of the package. Foreign nationals are not permitted on this route.

Mandatory Medical Check: All pilgrims undergo a government-conducted medical examination at Dharchula before proceeding on the inner-line route. Pilgrims with uncontrolled hypertension, cardiac disease, or severe respiratory conditions may not be cleared for entry. Trip To Temples advises all pilgrims to obtain a medical fitness certificate from their own physician before travel.

Best Season: May to June and September to October. The route is closed from November to April due to snow. Monsoon months of July and August bring heavy rainfall and increased risk of landslides on the Kali Valley highway, making travel unpredictable.

Auspicious Departure Dates: Our departure calendar is synchronised with the Hindu Panchang. Selected batches are timed to reach Adi Kailash on Padmini Ekadashi, Om Parvat on Vrat Purnima, and Ganesh Chaturthi darshan — the three most auspicious occasions of the Adi Kailash Yatra calendar. Please check the departure calendar and select accordingly.

Weather: Pithoragarh and Dharchula are at moderate altitudes with pleasant temperatures. Gunji and above sees temperatures of 7°C to 13°C during the day and near freezing at night. Jolingkong at 4,780 metres can be intensely cold with strong winds. Warm layered clothing is essential from Day 3 onwards.

Network: Mobile connectivity is available in Pithoragarh and Dharchula. Signal becomes intermittent beyond Tawaghat and is largely unavailable at Gunji, Nabidhang, and Jolingkong. Please inform your family of the full itinerary and communication gaps before departure.

Luggage: Travel light at all times. There is no porter service on this route. Luggage should be manageable by each pilgrim independently — one backpack or small duffel bag per person is recommended for the inner-line portion. Heavier bags may be left at the vehicle.

Packing Essentials: Warm thermal layers, a down jacket or heavy fleece, windproof and waterproof outer jacket, sturdy walking or trekking shoes, woollen cap, gloves and warm socks, UV-protective sunglasses, sunscreen with high SPF, headlamp with spare batteries, personal medicines, power bank, water bottle, personal dry snacks, and identification documents.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age limit for the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra? +
The age limit for the Adi Kailash Yatra is between 10 and 70 years, as set by the local authorities of Uttarakhand. Children below 10 years of age are not eligible. The upper age limit of 70 years may be subject to satisfactory medical clearance at the Dharchula check post. Pilgrims of all ages within this range are welcome on this zero-trek package, which has been specifically designed to be accessible to senior pilgrims and families.
What is the price of the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra Ex Kathgodam?+
The price of this package is ₹45,000 per person, inclusive of accommodation, all meals as per the itinerary, mountain vehicle transport, guide and assistant, and all inner-line permits. No Cost EMI is available from ₹1,495 per month. For detailed pricing, custom group rates, or EMI arrangements, contact our team directly at +91-8510007751.
Is the Adi Kailash Yatra truly zero-trek? Can senior pilgrims do it comfortably? +
Yes, this package is specifically designed on the zero-trek philosophy — all destinations including Om Parvat viewpoint at Nabidhang, Adi Kailash Darshan at Jolingkong, and Parvati Sarovar are reached entirely by specialised high-altitude mountain vehicle. No trekking on foot is required at any point on the itinerary. This makes it one of the very few high-altitude pilgrimage packages in India that is genuinely accessible to senior pilgrims, elderly parents, and those with limited physical mobility. We have successfully completed this yatra with pilgrims in their late sixties and early seventies.
What is the best month to visit Adi Kailash and Om Parvat?+
The best months are May, June, September, and October. May and June offer clear skies, stable road conditions, and the most reliable darshan of Om Parvat and Adi Kailash. September and October, while slightly cooler with occasional early winter rain, offer the possibility of post-monsoon clarity and dramatic snowfall on the higher peaks that makes the darshan especially magnificent. Temperatures during the yatra season range from 7°C to 13°C at the inner-line destinations. The route is closed from November to April.
What documents must I carry for the Adi Kailash Yatra?+
All pilgrims must carry their original Aadhaar Card with a photocopy, two recent colour passport-size photographs, and a medical fitness certificate from a registered physician (mandatory for those above 55 or with pre-existing conditions). These documents are required at the Dharchula Inner Line Permit check post. Trip To Temples will guide you through all documentation requirements before your departure date.
What should I pack for the Adi Kailash Yatra? +
Essential packing items include: documents and personal medications first; followed by warm thermal inner layers, a heavy jacket, waterproof windcheater, sturdy walking shoes, woollen gloves and cap; practical items such as an LED torch or headlamp, power bank, UV-protective sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm, a water bottle, and a thermal flask; personal hygiene items including wet wipes and toilet paper for use in remote areas; and personal dry snacks — energy bars, dry fruits, and glucose biscuits — for energy during the long mountain drives. Travel light wherever possible; there is no porter service on the inner-line route.
How many bags can I bring on the Adi Kailash Yatra? +
There is no strict bag limit, but pilgrims are strongly advised to travel light — ideally one small to medium rucksack or duffel bag per person. The mountain roads of the inner-line zone are narrow, and vehicle space is shared among the group. There is no porter service available at Adi Kailash or along the inner-line route. Overpacking causes inconvenience to the entire group and should be avoided.
ॐ नमः शिवाय · Jai Adi Kailash

From Delhi to the First Abode of Shiva

The ॐ on Om Parvat will not look the same in a photograph as it does when you are standing before it at 3,600 metres with the cold Himalayan air on your face. Adi Kailash does not announce itself — it waits, and then it appears.
