"Jahan Shiva ki samadhi se nikla ek mani — wahi hai Manimahesh"
A 4-night, 5-day pilgrimage by road from Amritsar or Pathankot through the ancient Chamba Valley — covering Chamunda Devi, the 84-temple Chaurasi Complex of Bharmour, Dhancho, Gauri Kund, and the sacred glacial lake of Manimahesh nestled at 4,080 metres beneath the divine Manimahesh Kailash Peak, one of the five Panch Kailash of India.
There are many ways to seek the divine. Some pilgrims walk the full 13-kilometre trail from Hadsar through deep forest and glacial stream, ascending slowly over two days to reach the sacred shores of Manimahesh Lake. That path carries its own extraordinary grace. But for those whose time is limited, whose health does not permit a sustained high-altitude trek, or who simply wish to arrive at the feet of Lord Shiva with every ounce of energy preserved for prayer rather than physical exertion, Trip To Temples offers the Manimahesh Yatra by Helicopter — a premium pilgrimage experience that delivers you to Gaurikund in a breathtaking 7 to 10-minute flight above the peaks and valleys of the Pir Panjal range.
From the helipad at Bharmour, you rise above the cedar-covered ridgelines and the ancient rooftops of this temple town, and within minutes the full grandeur of the Manimahesh valley opens beneath you — the glacial moraine, the cascading streams, the prayer flags of Gauri Kund, and there, ahead and above it all, the pyramidal perfection of Manimahesh Kailash Peak in its full, unobstructed glory. The helicopter touches down at Gaurikund. From there, a gentle 1-kilometre walk brings you to the sacred lake itself.
This package is designed for the pilgrim who wants the full devotional experience — the darshan, the holy dip, the Kailash Parikrama, the prayers at Gauri Kund Temple — without the physical demands of the multi-day trek. It covers the same sacred ground, offers the same spiritual completeness, and adds the extraordinary perspective of the Himalayas seen from the air.
The 2026 helicopter season for Manimahesh Yatra runs from 4th September (Janmashtami) to 19th September (Radha Ashtami) — the most auspicious fortnight of the entire Yatra calendar, when the devotional energy at the lake reaches its annual peak and hundreds of thousands of Shiva bhaktas converge from across the country. Book early. Seats on each flight are strictly limited.
Every stop on this route carries centuries of devotion — from the Shakti power of Chamunda Devi to the cosmic silence of Manimahesh Lake at 4,080 metres.
From the first morning departure out of Amritsar to the final step back from Manimahesh Lake, every day of this yatra is crafted with purpose.
Your journey begins with a morning pickup from Amritsar or Pathankot. Board your dedicated Tempo Traveller or Innova and set out on the scenic drive to Bharmour via the Chamba Valley — a road that winds through the lower Himalayan foothills, gradually climbing into the Pir Panjal range with views that grow more magnificent with every passing kilometre.
En route, your guide will take you through the following sightseeing stops: Mukteshwar Dham, the ancient Shiva shrine above the River Ravi confluence; the sweeping Chamba River View as you descend into the valley; the Laxmi Narayan Temple complex in Chamba town — a group of six stone temples of extraordinary antiquity and architectural beauty; the historic Chamba Chaugan, the centuries-old royal ground at the heart of the old city; and the first darshan of the journey at Chamunda Devi Temple, the fierce and gracious form of Goddess Durga worshipped since time immemorial by the people of the Chamba hills.
Arrive in Bharmour by evening and check in to your homestay. After freshening up, visit the Chaurasi Temple Complex — 84 ancient shrines gathered in one sacred courtyard — and Brahmani Mata Temple for a quiet, devotional introduction to the sacred landscape you will enter by air the following morning. Dinner and overnight stay at the Bharmour homestay.
This is the day the pilgrimage fulfils its promise.
Depart for the Bharmour helipad in the early hours — helicopter departures are scheduled between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM to take advantage of the stable morning air conditions typical of the Himalayan flying window. At the helipad, follow all safety instructions from the ground management team: maintain decorum, wear proper closed shoes, board from the front of the aircraft, and ensure there is no loose clothing or unsecured items.
The helicopter lifts off from Bharmour and within minutes you are above the treeline, the ancient town shrinking below as the valley opens in every direction. The flight to Gaurikund takes approximately 7 to 10 minutes — a journey that covers by air what would take the road pilgrim two days on foot, without diminishing a single moment of the spiritual experience that awaits.
Upon landing at Gaurikund, complete the gentle 1-kilometre walk to Manimahesh Lake. Gauri Kund itself — the small glacial pond revered as the bathing place of Goddess Parvati — lies just beside the path, its icy waters reflecting the surrounding peaks. Seek darshan at Gauri Kund Temple before continuing to the lakeshore.
At Manimahesh Lake, perform your holy rituals — the darshan of Manimahesh Kailash Peak, the holy dip in the sacred waters, the Kailash Parikrama, and your personal prayers offered in the immense silence of the high-altitude valley. Take all the time your heart requires. This moment is why you came. Overnight stay at the mountain campsite near Gaurikund.
The early morning helicopter flight returns you from Gaurikund to Bharmour — a final few minutes suspended above the sacred valley, carrying your darshan and your prayers back down to the world below.
After landing and returning to the homestay, rest for approximately two hours — the body benefits from gentle recovery time after a night at high altitude. In the late morning or afternoon, revisit the Chaurasi Temple Complex for a more leisurely and contemplative exploration than was possible on Day 1 — your guide will walk you through the individual temples, their histories, and their mythological associations. The remainder of the day is free for local exploration in Bharmour, rest, or quiet time in the mountains. Dinner and overnight stay at the Bharmour homestay.
After breakfast, depart for Dalhousie — approximately 120 kilometres from Bharmour through the scenic mountain roads of the Chamba district. The drive descends from the high Himalayan valley back through pine forests and river gorges, with the landscape gradually softening as you approach the gentler elevations of Dalhousie.
Subject to time and road conditions, visit Khajjiar — the extraordinary high-altitude meadow set within dense deodar forest at 1,920 metres, known internationally as the Mini Switzerland of India. Its wide, flat green expanse, ringed by forest and watched over by snow peaks, is a sight of serene natural beauty that offers a perfect final memory of the Himalayan landscape before your return to the plains. Arrive in Dalhousie by evening and check in to the homestay. Overnight stay in Dalhousie.
After an early morning breakfast, check out of the Dalhousie homestay and begin the final drive back to Amritsar or Pathankot. The road descends through the foothills of the Dhauladhar range, passing through Pathankot and onwards to Amritsar. Your Tempo Traveller will drop you at Amritsar Airport, Railway Station, or your specified point in Pathankot, as per your onward travel arrangements.
Your 5-day journey of helicopter-borne pilgrimage, sacred darshan, and Himalayan grace is now complete. The blessings of Manimahesh Kailash, carried home in your heart, are beyond the reach of any distance.
Please note: The itinerary is subject to change under unavoidable circumstances including weather conditions, helipad availability, and other operational factors. Trip To Temples will communicate any modifications as promptly as possible.

Flying Details: The helicopter departs from Bharmour helipad between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM each morning, subject to weather and operational clearance. The flight to Gaurikund takes approximately 7 to 10 minutes. Early departure is essential to take advantage of stable morning flying conditions in the Himalayan valley.
Helicopter Safety: At the helipad, all pilgrims must follow the instructions of the ground management team without exception. Maintain decorum and silence in the boarding area. Wear proper closed shoes — open sandals or chappals are not permitted. Board only from the front of the aircraft as directed. Avoid loose clothing, stoles, and duppattas that could be caught in the rotor downwash. No loose articles are to be carried in hand during boarding.
Luggage and Weight: The standard body weight allowance per person in the helicopter is up to 80 kg. Pilgrims are advised to travel light — carry only 1 to 2 kg of personal essentials (warm layer, medicines, water, prayer items) on the flight. All remaining luggage will be securely stored at the Bharmour homestay during your time at Gaurikund. Keep one small padlock key accessible for your stored luggage.
Best Season: The Manimahesh Helicopter Yatra season for 2026 runs from 4th September (Janmashtami) to 19th September (Radha Ashtami) — the most sacred and most attended fortnight of the annual Manimahesh Yatra. This window is strictly limited by weather and the official Yatra calendar.
Weather: September brings early winter conditions to the Manimahesh valley. Weather is often unpredictable — rain, low cloud, and mist can arrive without warning. Night temperatures at Gaurikund drop to between 0°C and 5°C. A warm waterproof jacket is absolutely essential. Helicopter operations are subject to weather clearance and may be delayed or rescheduled on days of poor visibility.
Packing Essentials: Thermal inner layers, a warm waterproof jacket, trekking shoes with closed toe, woollen gloves and cap, a raincoat or poncho, headlamp with spare batteries, basic personal medicines, a power bank, personal oxygen cans, and a thermal flask for warm water.

A Jio SIM offers the best available coverage in the Chamba and Bharmour areas.
Food and Water: All meals provided are strictly pure vegetarian, freshly prepared at homestays and camps. Carry personal dry fruits, energy bars, and glucose biscuits for additional sustenance at altitude. Drink only safe, boiled, or filtered water throughout the yatra — do not consume untreated stream water.
Safety: Your safety is our absolute priority. Keep valuables and cash secured at all times. Stay alert in crowded pilgrim areas. Keep your mobile phone fully charged at every opportunity before leaving Bharmour. Always follow the guidance of your guide, the ground management team, and official helipad instructions without exception.
Accommodation: In Bharmour and Dalhousie, accommodation is in local homestays with double-occupancy rooms. At Gaurikund, accommodation is in tents and camps on a multiple-sharing basis with basic dhaba facilities available. Toilet facilities are Indian-style temporary arrangements. No luxury facilities are available at Gaurikund or Manimahesh — pilgrims are asked to approach these basic conditions with the spirit of austerity and surrender that all high-altitude pilgrimages demand.
Every pilgrim must carry their original Aadhaar Card along with a photocopy, a medical fitness certificate in original from a registered MBBS or MD/MS doctor (issued no more than 15 days before the pickup date), and two recent colour passport-size photographs. These documents must be submitted to our team before departure.
The sacred lake of Manimahesh has been calling pilgrims for thousands of years. Whether you walk every step of the ancient path or arrive above the clouds on the wings of a helicopter, what awaits you at the lakeshore is the same — the immovable, snow-crowned peak of Manimahesh Kailash, the shimmering grace of the sacred water, and the silence of a place where Lord Shiva's presence is not a matter of faith alone but of felt experience.
