Known as Chhota Kailash, Adi Kailash stands at an altitude of about 6,310 meters, close to the borders of India, Nepal, and Tibet. It is believed to resemble Mount Kailash in Tibet, making it an important place for devotees of Lord Shiva. The nearby Om Parvat, at 6,191 meters, naturally shows the symbol ‘ॐ’ formed by snow on its peak, attracting both travelers and pilgrims from across India.
Starting from Dharchula in Pithoragarh district, travelers cross valleys, mountain roads, and rivers on their way to Gunji, Jyolingkong and Nabhidang. The route also passes through small border villages where one can experience the quiet Himalayan life.
Many believe that Lord Shiva once visited this region with Goddess Parvati and their sons, Kartikeya and Ganesha, to enjoy the beauty of nature.
